Bergmann Attorneys at Law acted as the due diligence and negotiation advisor for wpd europe GmbH in its acquisition of the pre-construction stage wind power project Tohkoja in the municipality of Kalajoki, Finland.

wpd europe GmbH is a leading developer and operator of wind farms. The company is a joint undertaking of privately-held wpd AG, Bremen, Germany, and the municipal utility company of Munich, Stadtwerke München GmbH. The company has realised construction projects of more than 1,500 wind turbines with a total capacity of 2.5 GW. In Finland, wpd europe GmbH holds various wind farm projects, one of which (Mäkikangas in the municipality of Pyhäjoki, 33 MW) is in the construction phase.

The Tohkoja project in the municipality of Kalajoki is envisaged to comprise 26 wind turbines with an aggregate capacity of up to 83 MW. It was developed by Fortum Power and Heat Oy, a subsidiary of the major Finnish energy company Fortum Oyj.

The acquisition of the Tohkoja project by wpd europe GmbH will be implemented in phases. The seller will remain responsible for finalising the permitting of the projects, while wpd europe GmbH will raise project financing for construction. The wind farm is envisaged be built in individual construction phases between 2016 and 2017.
